IDENTIFY YOUR LEARNERS

Learners are three in there kinds. They are – visual learner, auditory learner and kinesthetic learner. Visual learners are those who are able to learn something through visual experiences like seeing a poster, an image, map, flow chart etc. Auditory learners can learn through hearing. This type of learners are able to learn just hearing an audio clip or a lecture by the teacher. And kinesthetic learners are those who learn by doing something practically. They need such an environment where they can involve themselves physically. Rather giving lecture on a mathematical problem let them practice, or rather showing a place in the Map, let them draw the Map.

Although, most of the learners are the combination of those three types, the few ones out of these have to be identified by the teachers. Only then it will be the justice for those students. Here are few tips to identify such type of students –

Observation : Observation is a very strong technique to identify the students types. A teacher can observe their students anywhere and any moment. After every observation s/he should note down her/his findings.

Project : You can apply project method too, to identify their differences. Give each student a particular problem with a deadline to submit. After submission evaluate and note down findings.

Display Board : There should have a display board in front of every classroom. Ask the students to write their likes and dislikes and pin up them in the display board. From the display board a teacher can easily get sufficient information about their students.

If we can identify our learners then our teaching will give us more and more enjoyment. Our teaching will be more meaningful.  Thank you.

Checklist : It can be regarded as a reliable tool for identifying what type of students they are.A sample format has been given for you. You can modify or add relevant points.

  • I can hear easily – (yes/no)
  • I can learn from my teachers lectures –(yes/no)
  • I can learn very easily when teachers display pictures, images, maps etc. - (yes/no)
  • I can learn very easily when teachers give me opportunity to do myself – (yes/no)

If we can identify our learners then our teaching will be more meaningful and enjoyable. Thank you.
