When we are aware of our own strengths and weaknesses; abilities and limitations, then it is called self-awareness. Success is very much depends on our state of self-awareness

When we are aware of our own strengths and weaknesses; abilities and limitations, then it is called self-awareness. Success is very much depends on our state of self-awareness.If we see the lives of successful people then we will come to know that they are aware of their strengths and weaknesses; they are aware of their likes and dislikes and they are aware of their limitations. They are also aware about how to utilize their strengths or how to strengthen weaknesses to win a deal. So, teachers as friends of the students, should take initiative develop students’ self-awareness. Few activities have been forwarded for the teachers so that they can apply in case of their students.

  • Ask students write their likes and dislikes, their abilities, strengths as well as their weaknesses. This practice helps oneself understand his inner person. Basically a checklist or a questionnaire is sufficient for this activity.
  • Anger, happiness, joy, jealous, pride, etc. are some emotions which we everyone have come across. Ask students observe their emotions and write about those emotions they experience. For example, ask them think which emotion or emotions they experienced during the day and why that happened; how he controlled or managed that emotion; how was his feelings due to that emotion? It should be practised every day before they go to bed. This activity is very helpful to understand our outlook, our mindset and at the same time help understand whether our deeds were right or wrong. Furthermore, such practice increases our capacity to control our emotions and develop creativity.
  • Questioning oneself like - who am I ?, what am I doing ?, what do I want ? etc. gives opportunity to talk with oneself. We always talk with others. This is good. But at the same time we should have some time to talk with ourselves. This practice can help us discover our reality. If there was any wrong then this practice gives opportunity to think again and correct them.
  • Teach students Mindfulness. Neuroscientist have proved that practice of regular Mindfulness enlarge pre-frontal cortex of the brain which increases self-awareness.

A little initiative by the teachers may give their students a successful life.
